Friends of Central Park

Central Park, Central Avenue, Hereford, UK

The Friends of Central Park are a group who have formed to facilitate the improvement and updating of the play area and open space on Central Avenue (behind Hereford Fire Station). We are consulting with park users, young people, the local community and interested parties and are raising funds and overseeing the project. If you would like to become a Friend of Central Park and be involved with this exciting community project, you would be most welcome.

The Friends was founded following a public meeting on 18 March 2008, when 22 people gathered to discuss developing and improving the park on Central Avenue (behind the Fire Station), following Toni Cook's article in community newsletter JABA 21 about the poor condition of the park.

A committee was formed and all the people at the meeting agreed to become a Friend of the Park; a group that would support the developments. The problems of the park were discussed and many suggestions were made of how things could be improved - the meeting was positive and a wide range of people were present. The main idea was to create a new park space that was for all of the community to use: a place where younger and older children, young people and adults and older people could all use and enjoy a well-resourced and attractive outdoor space.

The committee have come to a decision about the name of the park. It will be known as CENTRAL PARK (and informally continue to be known as The Pit). The group have been formally constituted as The Friends of Central Park and plans are now being developed to fund raise for the park.
